Maratita and Herman T. Guerrero of Saipan, who was also re-elected last November, were sworn in yesterday.
Rota’s Denise Tanya King is the new BOE secretary.
The other elected BOE member is Saipan’s Galvin S. Deleon Guerrero.
Blanco-Maratita said the board will continue in its efforts to achieve its goals.
“The priorities would be to take a look at ensuring that every student, no matter from what island or school, has access to the same opportunities that they need to succeed,” she said.
There has to be more equity in terms of opportunities for students in terms of classes, extra curricular activities and other resources, she added.
The other priority are the implementation n of the projects funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
“We also will work with the Legislature to ensure that we maintain the level of funding needed by the Public School System,” Blanco-Maratita said.
