Fishing group cleans up at Garapan Fishing Base

The group’s work yielded a total of 650 pounds of trash and debris.

SFA undertook the beach cleanup as part of the Division of Environmental Quality’s monthly brigade cleanup.

“This collaborative cleanup activity demonstrates the association’s commitment to the protection and enhancement of the commonwealth’s fragile island ecosystem,” noted SFA president Gene Weaver.  “The SFA is committed to preserving the environment, and this is one way in which we can protect our island and the ocean.”

“We are always delighted to see local groups pitch in to help keep our islands clean,” said Marianas Visitors Authority Managing Director Perry Tenorio. “A pristine environment is important to our tourism industry, but it is vital to our island’s future.”

SFA beautification co-chair Karrie Fernandez said they intend to increase the number of participants in future cleanups.
