Over 100 line up for free H1N1 vaccine

Public Health Deputy Director John Tagabuel said he was “surprised” to see the number of people coming in.

“It seems like more people are coming in for the shots than for the vegetables at the Tuesday Market,” he added.

He said the high turn out mirrors their effective campaign against the virus.

Public Health will also provide the free similar vaccine shots to the other members of the community on Jan. 14 and 16.

“People are more aware now and they are interested in protecting themselves from the flu,” Tagabuel said.

He said there are enough shots available for the people on island.

Some of the residents interviewed by this reporter expressed their gratitude to the government for the free vaccine.

“It costs a lot to have the shot from my home country,” said a foreign worker, who declined to be identified.

He added that he is “very thankful to have the shot for free.”

Caesar Danao, a farmer, said he did not want to  catch the H1N1 flu.

Tagabuel is reminding those who haven’t had the vaccine to take note of the scheduled dates.

“Have yourself vaccinated to be protected,” he said.
