Graduating high school students explore career options

Maverick Basilio, a senior from Marianas High School, said he wants to get a trainee position under the cooperative program.

He said they are required to undergo 10 hours of weekly training off campus with a business organization.

He said he came to the career fair “to have better plans for the future and learn more about the different opportunities out there. I’m also trying to get a job.”

Cooperative education students participate in completing résumés, applications, interviews, personal development and other projects.

Through cooperative training, students gain work experience as on the job trainees.

Consolacion Taitano, a senior from Kagman High School, is considering a career in the field of hotel management.

“I came here on my own. I decided to come because I wanted to learn a lot about different jobs and other opportunities,” she said.

The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library participated in the event and its representatives talked to the students about occupational opportunities at the library and the requirements to be part of their team.

“We are certainly happy and pleased to participate. This is a great way to introduce work ethics, introduce love of the job and to learn what are the skills required, commitment needed, and time management skills in one’s chosen career,” said the library’s executive director John Gonzales.

Over 15 public and private agencies participated in the career fair.
