Court orders arrest of woman for transporting hazardous material

Yuqiong Zheng was charged with one count of reckless violation of the Federal Aviation Act and one count of willful violation of the Hazardous Material Law.

The two-page indictment stated that Zheng recklessly caused Buprofezin, a pesticide assigned the hazardous material designation, to be transported in air commerce on Oct. 9, 2008.

It added that Zheng “offered for transportation in commerce aboard an aircraft” Buporfezin that was improperly labeled, packaged, and conditioned for shipping.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Beverly McCallum is prosecuting the case.

Change of plea

In other news, Designated Judge David Wiseman will hear today the change of plea and sentencing of Wei Li Liu who signed a plea agreement yesterday.

Li admitted that he attempted to enter Guam illegally on Jan. 5, 2010, along with 23 other Chinese nationals.

Li was represented by court-appointed attorney Mark Hanson.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Schuler is prosecuting the case.

Waiver of speedy trial

The U.S. District Court for the NMI, in a separate case, granted the waiver for speedy trial moved by Crisanto Maderal Olivos who was arrested for marriage fraud last month.

The jury trial will commence on May 3, 2010, the court said.

Olivos is currently out on bail.

His co-accused Maria Calipay Maderal Camacho was arrested on Guam and was released on recognizance.

Olivos and Camacho were charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States and to commit immigration document fraud, and one count of immigration document fraud.
