It is her first year working at the school but most of her professional experience has been working with college students.
“I have worked informally with individuals between the ages of six to 60 year old,” she said.
Her job, she added, gives her “the opportunity to work with people and show them how to deal with their emotions, learn to become better at what they do, and still be happy to be themselves.”
Villagomez-Bier, through the values instilled by her family, wants to give back the love and appreciation she received to help children believe in their full potential and reach their goals.
Her family was a great influence in her chosen profession, she said.
They showed her how love and understanding could be extended to others.
“Through the years, I watched my parents and was amazed at how much they gave of themselves. Through all their good deeds, I learned how it is to be compassionate, caring, sensitive and helpful to those in need,” she said.
She is happiest when helping students. With the support of his husband Claus, their children Raquel and Karl as well as her mom Marylou, she chose to be a school counselor.
“There is something about working with younger children — they have so much positive energy and so much love to share. I can’t imagine anything better,” she said. “I find my profession quite meaningful. I have learned so much from them and because of them; I am a much better person.”
