1 more plead guilty in illegal entry case

The defendant was also delivered to an authorized U.S. immigration official for removal proceedings.

Li was represented by court-appointed attorney Mark Hanson while Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Schuler prosecuted the case.

So far, of the 24 individuals arrested last Jan. 5, 16 had already signed plea agreements.

Four of the defendants had asked the court to dismiss the charges against them.

Their federal jury trial will start on Feb. 22.

The court has scheduled a Feb. 17 evidentiary hearing regarding the controversial “transfer” of one of the two ringleaders of the group to Gov. Benigno R. Fitial’s house so she could massage him.

In other news

All of the five defendants —  three men and two women — in the Jan. 30, 2010 foiled attempt to enter Guam illegally are scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow in federal court.

The defendants are Shixu Huang, Lihua Yi, Jingfan Zhang, Pingping Zhang, and Zhanshan Zhang.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, together with the U.S. Coast Guard and a CNMI law enforcement vessel, arrested the defendants on board two inflatable boats.

They will be represented by court-appointed attorneys Robert O’Connor, Bruce Berline, Michael Dotts, Mark Hanson, and Anthony Long.

Schuler is also prosecuting the case.
