Joe Aitaro, chairman of the organizing committee said the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Justice are in collaboration to increase police visibility in schools.
He said the presence will also prevent students from slipping dangerous weapon and drugs inside the school.
He said the police will inspect lockers and bags of every students to ensure that they will not be bringing in any weapons inside the school.
There has been concern over the increased drug problems and assault and battery crimes involving minors.
Aitaro said that with the new approach, this will send a strong message to the youth.
Also discussed during the convention was to establish a camp or rehabilitation center for the youth involved in criminal offenses.
“Instead of holding a sign like a criminal when the youth is arrested for criminal violations, it’s better to put them in the camp. This will help them to think twice and not to do the same offense.” Aitaro said in an interview.
The Youth Convention was held on Monday with the aim to see if the youth issues are still relevant.
The convention is also looking into the possibility of reactivating the Palau Youth Council.
