Melson Miko, PVA Community/Support Services manager, said they are targeting sixth to eighth graders with this activity to make them aware of the importance of tourism industry and how to take care the natural resources of the island.
The PVA week- long activity started at the Maris Stella Elementary School. They showed power point presentation entitled “Understanding Palau Tourism Industry.”
“The presentation that we are doing is to inform the kids about the tourism industry, why it is important to us and why we should welcome visitors enthusiastically, that is the purpose of the WAVE.” Miko said in an interview.
This presentation contains what is tourism all about, the number of tourism coming in to the island, hotels, rooms, accommodations, airlines flights schedule, kinds of foods, museum, Palau cultureand specially the world class-diving places on the island, among others.
The presentation also encouraged students to stop graffiti, keep the surrounding clean, avoid spitting anywhere and give respect to the community and visitors.
Miko said that if the environment is clean it attracts more tourists.
On March 22, the PVA will conduct a talk show at the Eco-Paradise at 1:15 p.m.
He said they will also inform the public about the WAVE activity.
The week-long event will end next week.
