KOROR (Palau Horizon) – The new and first Resident Ambassador from Japan to Palau Yoshiyuki Sadaoka promised to strengthen the ties between Japan and Palau during his reception party at the Palau Pacific Resort on Wednesday night.
“Let me assure you that I will continue my duty to further strengthen the excellent relationships we have between Palau and Japan,” Ambassador Sadaoka said.
Sadaoka presented his credentials to President Johnson Toribiong on February 10, saying Japan should have posted a full ambassador to Palau a long time ago since Palau is one of the most important countries for Japan.
“Japan and Palau are allies,” said Ambassador Sadaoka. “Palau has never failed to support Japan; and Japan has never failed to support Palau.”
According to President Toribiong the event was a very historical occasion. “Tonight we are witnessing another milestone with our relations with Japan,” he said.
The president in return pledged his full support to the ambassador. He also asked all members of the House of Delegates as well as his ministers to do the same.
“Japan has a special place in the heart of the Palauan people. We have a long history together,” the president added. “You have done a lot to make Palau an independent country.”
