Japan magazine to feature Marianas Cup

The magazine’s chief editor Ai Yoshida and photographer Kazuaki Matsunaga who covered the Marianas Cup at the Pacific Island Club last week, informed the MVA they will put it out in five full-color pages for the May 2010 issue of the magazine which is circulated in Japan in 2,000 copies quarterly.

The magazine, according to MVA targets professional and amateur volleyball players in their 20s to 40s and features techniques, player profiles, and most importantly, action photos.

The estimated value of the magazine’s coverage of the Marianas Cup is $12,500.

MVA noted that this indicates sporting events in the CNMI continue to pay off for the islands’ tourism promotions.

MVA helped coordinate the Japanese media men’s presence on the island and provided ground transportation for is editor and the whole crew.

Out of 76 players including AVP professionals Jennifer Snyder, Paul Baxter, Andrew Fuller and Claire D’ Amore  who competed in the 18th Marianas Cup, 10 of them were pros from Japan. 

They are Daisuke, Junki, Tomo Obata, Mutsumi Ozaki, Hiroyo Kaneda, Chie Iwana, Yoko Miki, Megumi Murakami and Remi Sudo. They played with U.S. pros, teams from Saipan, Korea and Guam.

The visiting media men arrived on Saipan last Feb. 25, stayed in Hyatt Regency Saipan and departed last Monday, the day after the Marianas Cup.

Yoshida and Matsunaga conducted interviews and photo shoots with Japanese participants of the Marianas Cup.

Aside from the sports events, the magazine staffers will also include the Pacific Islands Club Saipan and the weekly Garapan Street Market in the news feature.
