OROR (Palau Horizon) – The case against a man charged with assault and battery was ordered to be cleared administratively on February 16 because he is off-island, having joined the United States Military.
Shane Kuartei was charged with count one of assault and battery by means of dangerous weapon for hitting the alleged victim, Gerald Tulop.
On September 2, 2007, investigations revealed that Kuartei hit Tulop on the arm with a baseball bat. The incident occurred near the KR Shopping Center. The alleged victim was then brought to the hospital for treatment.
An eyewitness, Glenn Tellames, confirmed the incident.
Kuartei was notified to appear before the trial court on February 16, this year, to face the charges against him. However, the court found that he is no longer on Palau and that he has joined the US Military.
No warrant will be issued against Kuartei.
