Barcinas is Liberation Day chairman

“I am ready for the event and my staff will help me along the way,” Barcinas said. “I did tell the mayor’s office that

I am a busy person with many community involvement.”

Yesterday, he met with the other committee members and gathered ideas for the Liberation Day program.

Initially, he said the committee is considering extending the search for the Miss Liberation Day Queen to schools, various organizations and ethnic groups.

During the principals meeting at the Public School System, he said he will present the proposal asking each school to select a Miss Liberation Day Queen candidate.

He believes his duties and responsibilities as school principal will not be affected by his role in this year’s Liberation Day celebration.

“I feel that it should not jeopardize my current job because I have already set it up so that everyone will do their best,” he said, “The staffers are great,  my leadership knows what to do, and my students are trying their best to follow policies so as not to get into trouble.”

But the funding is yet to be worked out since Gov. Benigno R. Fitial vetoed the $70,000 allocation earlier passed by the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation.

Barcinas said if there are no funds the committee will find all avenues to generate them.

To make this event successful, he said he will work closely with the mayor’s office, the community, the schools and the private sector.

He said the committee will soon announce the details of the program, including the parade, the nightly entertainment, and the construction and arrangement of the booths.
