Trench Tech president and promoter, Cuki Alvarez, his wife Mari and son Shane “Pikaboo” were on Tinian last weekend for a brief demonstration of some MMA moves.
Alvarez said Team Zeng Zung founder, Josh Castro brought them there to help train Tinian’s promising fighters, many of whom have already proven themselves in the recent Rites of Passage 8.
The Saipan MMA promoter showed the Tinian fighters some advanced moves and fighting skills. He said about 25 excited and MMA enthusiasts showed up at the Tinian gymnasium for the two-day seminar.
Tinian, Alvarez said is like how Saipan was six yeas ago. A lot of young men there are very hungry and excited to get into MMA.
Alvarez expressed belief that Team Zeng Zung/Trench Tech Tinian will be a force to be reckoned with very soon.
“With a little more practice and experience and more quality training, I see champions coming out of Tinian in the very near future,” Alvarez said.
Castro, he also noted has big dreams and aspirations for his fellow Tinian islanders who want to compete in MMA.
“I truly believe that this is the most important step in starting an organization. He is very energetic and enthusiastic about the sport and more importantly about enforcing proper guidance and discipline for his young group of fighters on his team,” added.
Castro’s passion in training the members of Team Zeng Zung and his sheer will to teach them caught Alvarez attention. Right there, he said he instantly bonded with him and told him he would assist him and his partners- Keith “Typhoon” Nabors and Juanis King in starting Team Zeng Zung/Trench Tech Tinian.
Trench Tech Saipan has already taken the first step in assisting Tinian MMA by donating $500 to repair their boxing ring.
“We are also going to help invest in some quality mats for them to practice their ground skills. I will be traveling to Tinian from time to time to check up on the team and do seminars at least once or twice a month. The ultimate goal is to bring TRENCH WARZ to Tinian before the end of the year,” Alvarez said.
