The Saipan Zoo management yesterday said like in the last two years, they will be bringing small and cuddly animals such rabbits and piglets.
“We are glad to give the children a chance to pet the small animals which they can see at the zoo,” a Saipan Zoo employee said.
The Department of Public Health will conduct a health fair for members of the community who want to have their blood pressure taken, or avail of glucose screening and H1N1 shots.
Other highlights will be a cooking demonstration by Northern Marianas College- Cooperative Research, Extension and Education Service.
Aside from the petting zoo, there will be carnival games, face painting, and a big fire truck show by the Department of Public Safety which will allow the children to climb up the fire truck.
Last Tuesday, American Red Cross-NMI chapter executive director John Hirsh extended his invitation to the whole community to come out and join the 24th annual Red Cross walkathon which draws over 2,000 participants each year.
Hirsh, who was a guest at the Rotary Club meeting at the Hyatt Regency Saipan, said the proceeds from the event will fund the projects of the organization. They hope to surpass last year’s collection of $40,000.
“In addition to the health benefits that our walkers can get from the exercise, this is a good time for family members to bond and have fun together in the walkathon and various games after the walk,” Hirsh said.
The registration fee is still $15. The 10k walk will start at 6 a.m. simultaneously at the 4H Building in Susupe, Taga Beach on Tinian and Guata Park on Rota.
Attractive prizes are in store for schools with the highest number of walkers, schools as well as students, non-students, organizations and agencies that turn in the highest donations.
Hirsh urged the community to get their registration forms from Red Cross volunteers, school coordinators, the Red Cross office on Airport Road.
