PMA’s Iyechad, Kim win moot court competition

Iyechad and Kim were the petitioners in the simulated court proceedings and beat Unly Chen and Micah Fyers (respondent team) also students of PMA in the final round.

Susan Kenny Pflazer, moot court committee chairperson said that the formulated case for the competition conducted on Friday was based on a fictional class action suit filed by a Rockefeller High School students claiming unreasonable search implemented by the school to enforce a policy against drugs.

The case was that the school implemented random searches using drug sniffing dogs and the winning team of Iyechad and Kim with coaching from lawyer Ron Ledgerwood, successfully argued that the search performed by the school violated Fourth amendment rights to be free from unreasonable searches.

There were seven high school teams that competed for the first place. The third place meanwhile went to Erwin Wong and Pilar Kirk of the Mindszenty High School won third place.

The judges were Attorney General Ernestine Rengiil, lawyers John Rechucher and Oldiais Ngiraikelau.

The winning tandem received a traveling trophy and cash prizes.
