The incident happened while CUC was transporting oil from the Mobil Marianas plant to the power plant through the main pipeline.
This was the scenario during yesterday’s drill to ensure and maintain CUC’s readiness for any untoward events.
CUC spokesman Gary P. Camacho said the drill simulated a scenario that involved the mobilization of equipment, including additional personnel from other agencies.
During the drill, 10 CUC personnel were deployed.
The other responders were the U.S. Coast Guard, the Division of Environmental Quality, Coastal Resource Management, the
Department of Public Safety, the Commonwealth Health Center and Mobile Marianas.
“Participants in the drill aim to control and prevent oil spill into the lagoon,” he said, adding that the main goal was to minimize the problem.
CUC safety office Matt Chargualaf said the exercise lasted from three to four hours, and involved the deployment of the oil boom.
CUC Executive Director Antonio Muna witnessed the drill which started at 1:30 p.m.
He said the drill is part of CUC’s normal operating procedures.
“This benefits everybody in the public,” he added.
He said the exercise will allow them to evaluate their response time and to ensure that the right people are involved in the process.
“This will ensure that we are preparing accordingly,” he added.
