“I am very surprised and happy to be nominated for this prestigious award. It is a great honor and I did not expect it,” Ayuyu told the Variety.
She said being nominated along with other businesswomen who excel in their own fields makes her feel a winner.
Ayuyu will be flying to Guam for a luncheon on March 30, but the awarding of the 2010 Business Women of the Year will be on April 24.
She is the only nominee from Saipan this year.
Last year, Lorraine S. Okada, executive manager of the legal offices of Carlsmith Ball LLP on Guam won the 2009 First Hawaiian Bank Guam Business Bank Businesswoman of the Year Award.
The other awardees were Katherine Calvo, SGRO chairman of the board and executive vice president of Pay-Less Markets Inc. for 2006, Christine Won Pat Baleto, general manager for Market Wholesale Distributors Inc. in 2007, and Julienne Rose Perez Duenas, physical therapist and owner of Sports, Orthopedic and Active Rehabilitation Inc. in 2008.
Now in its fifth year, the search for the Businesswoman of the Year program continues to grow every year since its inception in 2006.
The program continues to recognize the contributions of women in business and provide scholarships that support the local colleges and university.
The outstanding contributions of the nominees not only in their businesses or field but their contribution for the island community will be taken into consideration in choosing the winner.
