The Manta Ray Band, consisting of 40 members along with 10 chaperones, will travel to New York for the week of April 16 to 23.

Red flag at 4 Saipan sites

(DEQ) — The Division of Environmental Quality says water samples collected from DPW Channel Bridge, S. Puerto Rico Dump, Dai-Ichi Drainage and San Jose Beach contained excessive concentrations of fecal indicator bacteria that exceeded the CNMI’s marine water quality standards.

DEQ has given these locations a red flag and advises the public not to fish or swim within 300 feet of these locations for the next 48 hours or until otherwise notified.

Sorensen is title sponsor of MMAC

(MMAC) — The 2010 Marianas March Against Cancer committee is pleased to announce that Sorensen Media Group (Power 99/97.9 The Kat/ABC 7) will become “title sponsors” of the 2010 MMAC.

Title sponsorship is the highest level of sponsorship for the MMAC. A company or corporation must donate $3,000 or more in cash or services to qualify as a title sponsor.

The 2010 Marianas March Against Cancer will be held from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on May 14-15 at the Hopwood Junior High School field in Chalan Piao.

HAGATNA (Continental Airlines) — Continental Airlines says it its flight crews will begin accepting credit and debit cards exclusively for on-board purchases including Duty-free for all Continental Micronesia flights utilizing new hand-held devices that are more convenient for customers effective April 1, 2010.

PARENTS NIGHT. Northern Marianas College officials and parents gathered for a photo after the Parents Night seminar held on Rota at the Rota Junior High School on the evening of March 29.  Some of the topics that were covered during the seminar include: NMC’s background, accreditation, financial aid options and cost of college.  Parents were also given good advise by NMC Dean of Student Services and former counselor Leo Pangelinan on how to better cope with their children as they transition out of Rota and into other regions as they pursue a college degree and about the importance of supporting their children’s endeavors.

NMC Charter Day set, vendors invited

(NMC) — The Northern Marianas College Charter Day Committee has set the date of the celebration for May 7. NMC’s Charter Day is an annual celebration of the college’s service to the community as an institution of higher learning — it will be 29 years this April since NMC was first chartered.

The deadline to submit applications for booth spaces is on April 26. Booth space is limited, so applications should be submitted as soon as possible.
