Saipan will send students to Japan

Vinycia Seman, executive secretary of Saipan Mayor Donald Flores, yesterday said they are now seeking high school students who want to participate in the 2010 KSKK Student Cultural Exchange program this October.

Last month, Japanese students with the KSKK  International Youth Cultural Exchange group visited Saipan.

The KSKK established the cultural exchange program with the Saipan municipal government  over 30 years ago, Seman said.

She said the students from Saipan will be in Japan from Oct. 7 to14.

Students who want to join the program must be enrolled in a recognized public/private high school; possess a valid U.S. passport not to expire within 6 months prior to and throughout the duration of travel; must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher as well as clearance from counselors and instructors; and traveler’s insurance.

Seman said applications must be turned in at 12 noon by Sept. 3 with a non-refundable security deposit of $50.

The full payment of $466.27 must be made by 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 24. This amount, which already includes the $50 deposit, is the cost of the discounted airfare rate of Delta Airlines, Seman said.

She said KSKK in Japan will cover other costs such as transportation, accommodations, entrance fees for educational sight-seeing and three meals a day.

But students must bring their own pocket money and the $60 Tokyo Disneyland admission fee.

Since its foundation in November 1973, the International Youth Association of Japan, or KSKK, has undertaken various activities to cultivate the global thinking of youth from six to 26 years old.
