The installation of 110 dedicated sample taps was completed in February, he said.
“We see the trends showing that bacteriological contamination has decreased by about 99 percent,” he added.
The dedicated sample taps are installed within the distribution system, and this allows the water to be treated consistently, Iglecias said.
Before, CUC got its samples directly from households but now it gets them from the dedicated sample taps.
Each month, CUC collects more than 80 water samples and tests them for the presence of total coliform and E. coli bacteria.
Total coliform are found in the soil and will grow inside water pipes, water storage tanks, or even on a leaky tap.
Iglecias said dedicated sample taps will ensure that CUC provides good quality potable water.
This, he added, is in compliance with the drinking water regulations and the Safe Drinking Water Act.
“We want customers to have confidence in our water,” he said.
