Man gets 2 days for growing marijuana

Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman sentenced Augustine Castro to one year imprisonment, all suspended.

Castro signed a plea agreement, admitting possession of a controlled substance — marijuana.

He will pay a $200 fine, a $25 court assessment fee and a probation fee to be determined by the Adult Probation Office.

Castro will also perform 25 hours of community work.

Assistant Attorney General Brian D. Gallagher prosecuted the case while Castro was represented by Assistant Public Defender Douglas Hartig.

Castro was arrested by authorities last March with his brother Felix Castro, 53, for growing marijuana plants in Fina Sisu.

177 marijuana plants were recovered separately from the Castro properties — majority of the plants were from Augustine Castro’s property.

Felix Castro admitted possessing marijuana and was sentenced to one year in jail, all suspended.

The court also credited the five days he already served at the Department of Corrections facility and placed him on supervised probation for six months.

He was ordered to pay fees and fines and to complete 50 hours of community work service.
