Palau takes lead in medal count

Weightlifting and canoe proved to be Palau’s strongest events, giving Palau a bigger lead in the medal count for the 7th Micronesian Games.

As of August 7, Palau stretched their lead from the rest of their rival islands after earning 52 gold, 43 silver, and 30 bronze medals, totaling to 125.

Their lead in the medal count was partially attributed to the weightlifters, paddlers, and   fishermen.

The CNMI came in to take second place, winning 44 gold, 21 silver, and 25 bronze medals. The Republic of Marshall Islands followed for third place with 19 gold, 18 silver, and 18 bronze medals.

With time running out for the 7th Micronesian Games, medals are available as of presstime, and are being played between Palau, Guam, and the CNMI. The sports remaining include basketball, volleyball, and fast pitch.
