Paramount High Chief Ibbedul Yutaka M. Gibbons said they are going to meet with the HOTLs of the two States starting before end of the month.
During the meeting with the Koror State Legislators on Wednesday, Gibbons said they are going to ask the traditional chiefs to set a reserved area for the citizens of Koror and anyone who wants to go fishing without violating the bul.
“We are going to meet with them and then we ask them, perhaps to designate a conservation area that will allow citizens of Koror or any one wants to go fishing without any complication or so many requirements.” Gibbons said in an interview
The High chief added that the meeting is exclusively only for the HOTL.
He said it is not included on the meeting the Koror State Government officials because it concerns the traditional law.
It can be recalled that the bul has been a pressing issue between KSG and the two states.
Under the bul anyone who will be caught fishing on the States’ waters of Aimeliik and Ngarchelong will be sanctioned.
As to protect the rights of citizens of Koror, Gov. Yositaka Adachi together with the Koror State Legislators has come up with a process to pass a bill restricting all non-citizens or not registered voters in Koror to impose fees in visiting Rock Islands and Jelly fish Lake as well as in fishing.
Koror State officials also asked the HOTL to talk with the traditional chiefs of Aimeliik and Ngarchelong to resolve the issue but the HOTL refused to interfere and left the issue to the State’s officials.
Gibbons, however, said that they don’t want to commit any promises to resolve the issue but they are going to discuss with traditional chiefs the Koror State’s concern on the bul.
