Some of their other clients, however, are not paying on time, he said.

“It’s difficult right now —business is slowing down and more people are seeking assistance,” he added.

CUC was able to maintain its average collection level but “it took a lot of work,” Warren said.

The $4.5 million  billing  disputed by different government agencies has been reduced to “almost current,” he added.

Warren and CUC Assistant Executive Director Abe Utu Malae earlier told lawmakers that the government needed to be current in its payments to CUC so it could timely pay for its fuel purchases.

Warren said the financial operation of CUC is “improving.”

The water rate increase that CUC recently implement will further increase their revenue starting this month, he added.

By September or October, he said, they will have a rate hearing for  power.
