Conner, R-Tinian, in an interview yesterday said the Samoan Housing unit on Saipan’s Navy Hill is now being repaired, the first of the abandoned government buildings that the Tinian leadership wants to restore so the island will no longer lease private buildings for government operations.
Introduced by Conner, House Bill 17-62 was signed by Gov. Benigno R. Fitial two weeks ago.
Now known as Public Law 17-8, it appropriated the funds originally allotted for the construction of a dialysis center on Tinian.
Conner said many Tinian residents, especially those who are patients of the Commonwealth Health Center on Saipan, are currently staying “in the small units” of the Tinian Liaison Office.
He said a lot of Tinian residents visit Saipan for “important purposes.”
These residents, including four who require dialysis care, need bigger spaces, he added.
Tinian students also come to Saipan for academic or athletic competitions, he added.
