Council recognizes parole, probation officers

Camacho, a former police major, led the municipal council in recognizing adult and juvenile probation and parole officers yesterday.

Without law enforcement, the community’s peace and order will be out of control, he told the law enforcers.

Camacho and council vice chairman Eric Diaz presented  copies of the council’s commemorative resolution to the officers.

“This proclamation and recognition comport with the mission of the adult and juvenile probation and parole program in the CNMI to provide protection to the public against criminal offenders and also provide criminal offender rehabilitation assistance, in order to enable offenders to be reintegrated into society, and as a result reduce prison overcrowding and recidivism in the parole community,” the resolution stated.

Adult Probation Office Chief Ursula Lifoifoi Aldan, Ramona Camacho, on behalf of Sylvio Ada, the supervisor of the Juvenile Probation Office, and Liana Peter, acting chief of parole, received the copies of the commemorative resolution.

Aldan said they will continue to keep the community safety.

She said the badges issued to them will be used to gain public trust and not abuse it.

Camacho said probation and parole officers have addressed issues not limited to drug and alcohol abuse, sex-related offenses, child abuse, domestic violence, mental illness or incapacitation, as well as parole violations.

They risk their own personal safety in the commission of their duty, he added.

“In their role as community correction professionals adhering to their program mission to promote prevention, intervention and advocacy for victims and offenders, the men and women in the probation and parole community have exemplified admirably true commitment, dedication, honor and duty to the profession,” he said.
