Wabol who topped the third qualifying round last month, took the lead again at the Coral Ocean Point Resort last Saturday for his second victory in the qualifier as NMI golfers prepare for the Pacific Games 2011 that will be held in Nomea, New Caledonia.
A two-handicapper, Wabol was just a stroke over par 37 in the front nine and had an extra three strokes in the back to finish with 76 gross to top the June qualifier.
The NMI golfers who are vying for the Pacific Games slot have started shooting from the blue tee.
During the last white-tee drive in Marianas Country Club last month, Wabol fired 2-under par 34 in the front nine and went at-par in the back to finish two strokes under par 70.
Right behind Wabol was Jeff Taylor who shot 3-over par 39 in the front nine and improved to 2-over par 38 in the back nine to gross 77.
Tony Satur who did quite well in last month’s round tying it up with Steve Jang at 81, came third last Saturday improving his feat to 80 gross. He went 4-over par 40 in both directions of the COP course.
Adam Hardwicke and Jojie Tagutchi were tied in 83, Ret. Judge Edward Manibusan was in a three-way tie with Carl Hocog and Jang at 85 and Tars Olopai finished 88.
Trailing were Joe Saures and Steve Balakrishna who shot 91 and 93 respectively.
Manibusan shot 69 to top the first qualifier last March and Tars Olopai holds the second qualifying round’s top gross of 71 last April.
Meanwhile, the qualifying tournaments organizing committee announced that the next round will be at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort’s East Course.
The exact date will be announced later.
