BOE asks Legislature to act on teacher rep bill

Board Chairwoman Lucia Blanco-Maratita said there has been no teacher representative to BOE since Kagman High School teacher Ambrose Bennett’s term expired and educators are clamoring for their voices to be heard.

In a letter to Senate President Paul A. Manglona, Ind.-Rota, Blanco-Maratita said the board received numerous inquiries about the teacher representative.

“As teachers are valued partners in the education business, we eagerly await the establishment of the selection process for the teacher representative to the board. We want to ensure that their concerns are heard and that we work together as partners for the betterment of public education,” Blanco-Maratita told Manglona.

“The board would like to encourage the Legislature to act without undue delay so that perhaps teacher representation could begin serving with the opening of the new school-year in September,” she added.

Bennett won the teacher representative election in 2004 and served a four-year term or until 2008.
