The CNMI had a slow start in the early first quarter, making only 9 points from Lia Rangamar and Connie Camacho, who scored a three pointer.
Guam’s central offense included Brianna Benito and Jocelyn Pardilla, who both shot for a combined total of 32 points – nearly enough to equal the CNMI’s final score.
The CNMI did slightly better by the second quarter, but were being constantly fouled. Their team benefited from awarded free throw shots, giving them an extra six points.
By the beginning of the second half, Guam continued shooting their way ahead of the CNMI. Pardilla slipped her way through the CNMI’s defense while Tianna Quichocho and April Padilla each shot for a three pointer.
The CNMI suffered from numerous turnovers in the game; Lena Guzman and Dion Diaz attempted to recover their team in the second half but failed to do so due to lack of time.
The CNMI was set against Guam after defeating the Marshalls in the semi-finals. Palau, Guam’s rival in the semi-finals, will receive the bronze medal for women’s basketball.
