No reply from Interior’s Salazar

In an interview last week, Fitial said he had not heard from Salazar since the letter was officially submitted during the May 18 congressional hearing in Washington, D.C.

“No response yet,” the governor said.

“I think I should [allow him to] give it serious consideration before I send him another letter. But I will follow it up,” he added.

The governor told Salazar that Interior’s recommendation was flawed mainly because it did not include his views as chief executive of the Northern Marianas as required by the federalization law.

In his testimony during the congressional hearing, the governor said the Interior’s proposal was unjustified and should only be considered in the context of overall immigration reform in the U.S.
