This, according to Saipan Chamber of Commerce president Doug Brennan in the chamber’s August newsletter, is just one of the opportunities the commonwealth should seize.
Brennan said there are other possibilities created by the military buildup for the CNMI.
The Marianas Visitors Authority can market the CNMI as an ultimate weekend get-away spot for military personnel stationed on Guam.
The military, for its part, can conduct drills and training on Tinian which can provide an evening of rest and recreation.
Brennan said there are also possibilities for community service projects in conjunction with the training exercises.
He said there is also the distinct possibility of increased shipping to and from Saipan.
With more ships operating in the area, the CNMI can entice them to visit the islands.
“The cost of shipping is ridiculous right now. If we have any chance at all of exporting goods from the CNMI to Guam, now is the time to start planning, asking questions and laying the ground work,” Brennan said.
