“It’s an anonymous report and we don’t have any proof,” CUC water and wastewater division chief engineer Robert J. Lorenz said.
Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council Chairman Ramon B. Camacho said there should be “stringent measures” to stop the illegal tapping of water.
He said some illegitimate farmers are illegally tapping the CUC’s water system for their farms.
CUC water and wastewater division manager Mariano Iglecias said the Department of Public Safety should look into Camacho’s allegation.
“We have authorities that we can inform. They have the jurisdiction on that kind of work,” Iglecias said.
He believes that illegal tapping of water is not confined to a particular group of people.
But Lorenz and Iglecias assured that the electronic water meters CUC installed cannot be tampered.
“It’s very sophisticated. It is very difficult to tamper with, compared to the mechanical ones,” Iglecias said.
