According to the police report, at around 2: 25 a.m Officer Tmekei called central police and reported a car with plate number 1534 Airai hit the police patrol car while it was parked in front of the Sea Passion Hotel in Malakal. The police’s car side mirror was damaged and the suspect fled towards Ice box park after the incident.
Police pursued the suspect’s vehicle and pulled him over. The police then identified the driver as Rengulbai which was observed to be drunk.
He was transported to the police station and a Field Sobriety Test was performed on him.
Police then issued a citation to the director for reckless driving and negligent driving. He was released afterwards.
Bureau of Public Safety Director Norvert Yano, said Rengulbai was forced out of his lane to avoid hitting the oncoming car but police failed to see it. Rengulbai explained to the police that avoiding an approaching car prompted him to hit the patrol car.
Meanwhile, another man was arrested for reckless driving and driving under influence of liquor in Ernguul highway in front of Palasia Hotel.
The suspect was identified as Angelino Reyumd, adult male Palauan
Based on the report at around 10:40 p.m. Reyumd was spotted by officer Ubedie passing several cars towards the Topside direction.
When he was pulled over, the suspect appeared drunk. Reyumd was transported to the police station and placed under Field Sobriety Test but the suspect refused it. He was detained in jail.
The case is pending for further investigation.
