Man gets six months, 23 days for aggravated assault

After accepting the plea agreement, the court ordered the immediate release of Kaipat from prison on Wednesday afternoon.

Kaipat pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and battery for hitting Chen Ling Zheng with a wooden stick on Dec. 28, 2009.

Inos required Kaipat to pay restitution in the amount of $1,516.85, a $500 fine and a $100 court assessment fee.

Inos placed Kaipat on three years probation.

Kaipat will not consume alcohol during the probationary period, and he must obey all CNMI and federal laws.

Assistant Attorney General Shelly Neal asked Inos to direct Kaipat to stay away from his victim, which the judge granted.

Chief Public Defender Adam Hardwicke represented Kaipat.
