Good turnout for library’s ‘Make a Splash’ summer program

Children’s library associate Erlinda Naputi said during the first week after they opened the two-month event on June 22, there was an overflow of students for the different activities.

“We have a big number of young students, and the healthy dancing class for the younger ones can accommodate up to over 30 students only,” Naputi said. Some of the students have to wait for the next schedule.

Instructors from Rose Dance School and the Wise Women Village Project of the Department of Public Health conduct the dance classes for children six to nine years old from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while the classes for those who are 10-13 years old are held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on the same days.

“We are glad because it is vacation time yet the children are willing to get up early in the morning to come to the library,” Naputi said.

Joeten-Kiyu library executive director John O. Gonzales said he is very happy with the positive response of the community.

“Our theme is ‘Make a Splash’ and we are indeed making a splash,” Gonzales said.

He said  other children who are interested in the different programs can still join.

“Just come to the library and you can participate in any of the daily activities such as Reading Challenge, Read Aloud, crafts, movies, traditional Carolinian and Chamorro Cultural activities, and healthy ballroom dancing,” he said.

The Summer Reading Program and Cultural Fair will run until Aug. 20. For more information, visit the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library across from the Saipan World Resort, or call 235-7322.
