Koror State Special election set in Sept.

Palau Election Commission (PEC) officer Festus Ringang said the nominating petition will be closed on August 23; however no candidates have yet filed their petition.

The special election will be conducted in Ngerbeched hamlet.

Ringang said the hamlet has a total of 866 registered voters and the registration is still going on until August 27 at 5 p.m.

For the absentee ballots the request deadline set by PEC is on August 23 and Sept. 5 is the deadline to receive absentee voting ballots.

Meanwhile the polling venue has yet to confirmed by the PEC.

Uehara died in the morning hours of July 23 at the age of 57 at the Palau National Hospital in Koror State.

He was first elected to be a member of the Fourth Koror State Legislature (KSL) representing his beloved hamlet Ngerbeched. After then, he was reelected several times to the Fifth KSL, Sixth KSL, Seventh KSL, Eight KSL and Ninth KSL as the legislator for Ngerbeched hamlet.

On January 10, 2006, Uehara was selected by his peers to serve as Speaker of the Eight KSL.

In the resolution No. 9-13, adopted by the members of the Ninth KSL, they expressed their recognition to Uehara for his numerous contributions to the social, economic and overall welfare and well being of the people of the State of Koror and his many years of dedicated service to the people of Koror.

The resolution was adopted on August 12, 2010.
