Immigration Office ready for alien registration

“All foreign workers and foreigners who are staying in Palau for more than six months are required to register in the Immigration office starting in August.” Mariur said.

The fee for the registration is $25 and the registration schedule is open for the whole month of August starting from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mariur said that anyone who fails to register on the given date will pay five dollars fine per day.

He also warned those overstaying workers that if they failed to come up and register, the immigration would double their fines.

Mariur said that aim of this registration is to prevent overstaying and undocumented foreigners who are staying on the Island. This will also address the discrepancy in the number of forign workers in the island between the Labor office and the Immigration office.

Before, the Immigration office is not collecting fees for the registration but to cover the Bureau’s expenses in providing forms and documents they will start to collect fees, the director said.

Mariur, however, said that those who are members of diplomatic mission, formally recognized by the Ministry of State and their families, citizens of United States, Federated State of Micronesia and Republic of the Marshall Islands are exempted the registration. Also tourists and those aliens present in Palau at any time during the first seven calendar days of August and who will depart before September 1 are exempted.

After paying $25 registration fee the BOI will issue a registration card
