Bon Faiyah are Marianas Variety Women’s Basketball League’s first champions

The Green Team who went undefeated in the regular season had to face Bon Faiyah again after the latters’ narrow win in the finals’ Game 1.

“We almost lost that night, so we had to change our strategy and improve our plays a little bit,” Camacho said after the game.

Attributing their Game 1 victory to Vanessa Mobel’s missed shot in the final three seconds, Camacho she said they actually did not have enough coordination that time. They just went lucky in Game 1.

“Now this time, we really had to make it better. We needed to have successful pick and roll,” she said.

Indeed.

Jenequa Benavente took that job for the team. Just one signal from Camacho, she knew exactly what to do. Giving Camacho a pick on Melody Matson, or whoever comes to their team captain, Benavente paved the way for two-pointers more often this time.

In the early part of the third quarter, however, Green Team took the lead Matson controlled the offense really well and fired three consecutive two-pointers.

Something apparently went wrong with Green Team’s offense towards the end of the third quarter.

“They (team mates) were doing a lot of layups even there was nobody inside to secure rebounds,” Matson said after the game.

The unnecessary attack that went empty earned the Green Team successive turnovers that brought Bon Faiyah back to the upper ground.

Camacho who scattered 18 of her 30 points in the first half kept the surge to added 12 more points in the second half, while Yvonne Bennett mounted inside attacks to tally 20 points.

Benavente who contributed mostly in defense chipped in 12 points, and Dion Diaz added 10 points.

“We really wanted to make sure our team is all over the place especially in the offense to make all the best options possible,” Camacho said.

Melody led Green Team with 27 points and Christina Engelhardt had 12 points.
