AAG is a high-bandwidth fiber optic submarine cable system with a U.S. West Coast collocation facility in Los Angeles, California. It is the third fiber optic submarine cable system utilized by IT&E. AAG provides connectivity between Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Guam, Hawaii and the U.S. West Coast. AAG was designed from the start for broadband commercial traffic relying on field proven Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing technology to provide upgradable transmission facilities to the U.S. and seamless interconnection with other major cable systems on a global scale.
With AAG, IT&E increased its internet bandwidth capacity and added backup redundancy in the event of a disruption in other submarine cable systems. The additional capacity will enable IT&E’s wired and wireless broadband subscribers in the various federal, commercial, and public anchor institutions (i.e. health, education, safety) sectors to avail of the increasing demands for specialized applications that require high-bandwidth in the market place today.
“This additional infrastructure investment is made well in advance of the much anticipated federal military, civilian construction and infrastructure development planned relative to the U.S. military buildup in Guam and the CNMI — it will be a period of unprecedented economic growth in our region” said Larry Knecht, executive vice president. “As always, IT&E is positioned to serve this anticipated regional demand well into the future and this demonstrates our commitment to infrastructure projects to provide our subscribers the highest quality services” added Knecht.
IT&E is a part of the PTI Group which is the largest regional telecommunications company in the Marianas with nearly 80,000 total subscribers on Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan.
