Retired chief justice to sign books at Joeten-Kiyu library

Joeten Library executive director John O. Gonzales said the event will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday next week.

The book signing is organized by the CNMI Library Council, the Library Friends, and the staff and management of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library.

“The retired chief justice  will talk about his book, ‘From Colonization To Self-Government: The Northern Marianas Experience,’ and his reasons for writing it,” Gonzales said.

Dela Cruz will answer questions from members of the audience about the book.

Copies will be available for sale after the presentation.

Gonzales said 40 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the library.

“We are inviting the public to come and attend the book signing ceremony,” he said.

During the July 10 book-launching at the American Memorial Park Visitors Center, Gonzales described the book as a “must read” for everybody.

“The book tells so much about the history of the Northern Mariana Islands, and it should be introduced in schools and made available to the community,” he added.

The book tells the story of the NMI during the trusteeship era and its first three decades as a self-governing commonwealth of the United States.
