The Women’s team never led their game against the blue team.After being down by as much as 8 points midway to the fourth quarter, team Palau sparked a rally using their upbeat, aggressive, and feisty man to man defense that posted problems to their opponent. Yvonne Ueda, Jamie Ngirausui, Stephanie Calvo, Leilani Etpison, and Carissa Subris worked hand in hand on a 9 – 0 blast to give them the lead of 1 point with 34 ticks remaining on the ball game.
Blue team then worked the clock at the other end to get the final shot until Leilani tipped the ball from the hand of their point guard that landed in the hands of Stephanie. From there Blue team had to resort to fouling to try to make the women’s team earn points in the line. Women’s team coolly drained freethrows after freethrows to finally seal their victory with a score of 65 – 61.
On their second game, Women’s team crushed Yellow team. 64 – 35, who had only a handful of players who came for the match. Luke of team Yellow scored 19 points on the losing side, while Jaimie and Stephanie contributed 13 and 12, respectively for Team Palau win.
