Little League district tournament pays tribute to Naki

CNMI Little League district administrator, James Ada in an interview last week said that today, the entire CNMI baseball family is paying tribute to Naki for his dedication to the islands’ baseball program.

“This guy really deserves a round of applause,” Ada said adding that in the opening at 9 a.m., there will be a moment of silence for the late Celis.

As chief statistician of the Little League program, Celis never missed a baseball season taking care of the statistics in his own diligent way.

“He never used a computer doing those stuffs,” Ada remembers, saying Celis always like doing the job in old-fashioned way.

Known to many as Naki, the chief statistician had been involved in softball and baseball for over 30 years, having coached numerous teams and brought home so many trophies, “that he could not even count.”

Celis passed away last December 2009.
