MOJ not complacent on the series of marijuana operations in Peleliu

Gibbons said there is a possibility that the plantation of marijuana will temporarily stop but people may continue to do so in other areas which cannot be easily tracked down by the authorities.

He said marijuana plants have been a long time problem in Peleliu and Angaur States.

“People are planting marijuana due to economic crisis. They preferred to plant illegal plants than taro because it is easier to earn money.” Gibbons said.

He said that after Peleliu, the DDE is also planning to conduct marijuana operation in Angaur State.

The minister also explained that there was no arrest had been made because nobody was there during the operation in Peleliu.

Gibbons, however, said that until now the drug operatives are identifying those farm owners before filing a case.

More than 3,000 pounds of marijuana plants with a street value of $128,500.00 were confiscated by the drug operatives during the series of operation against illegal drugs in Peleliu.

The marijuana was seized from 15 plantations and some local residence.

This illegal drug is allegedly distributed to the entire Republic.
