Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman retained the $40,000 cash bail he earlier imposed on 22-year-old Brent Harold Borja.
Borja appeared in the custody of the Department of Corrections yesterday afternoon in Wiseman’s courtroom.
Wiseman expressed concern on the seriousness of the charges against the defendant.
Borja was arrested on Monday on the charge of assault with a dangerous weapon, three counts of assault and battery, kidnapping, two counts of child abuse, interfering with a domestic violence report, violation of an order for protection, two counts of disturbing the peace, contempt, and two counts of misuse of government property.
Officer Barbara K. Arend stated in her affidavit that the Tinian Department of Public Safety responded on June 10, 2010 to the request for police assistance made by Borja’s common-law wife.
DPS investigation included interviews with the victim and the children.
Borja has filed a motion for bail modification through his counsel Ramon Quichocho.
Wiseman said Quichocho’s motion was premature as he scheduled a hearing for today.
Assistant Attorney General Brian Gallagher is prosecuting the case.
