Aloisius Tellei filed his petition on Monday.
Festus Ringang, election officer III, however, said that the other candidates have until next week. Ringang said that they expect other candidates to come forward.
The deadline of filing for nominating petition is on April 19, 15 days before the election..
For the absentee voters, Ringang said the deadline is also April 19 for them to send request to vote. However, until now the PEC has not received any request for absentee voting.
Meanwhile, there were at least 20 new voters who were able to register at the PEC.
The PEC is eyeing two polling precincts during the Special election. One will be at the Melekeok State office and the other one is here in Koror.
Melekeok State has 565 registered voters excluding new voters.
The special election will be conducted to fill in the seat vacated by former Melekeok Gov. Lazarus Kodep who resigned from his post on March 8 because of his irregularities.
Kodep was sentenced on March 29 to five years imprisonment in Koror Jail. He was fined of $10,000 for one count of misuse of public funds and one count of misconduct in public office.
Kodep was accused of converting public funds to his own use on at least 100 occasions between 2003 and 2007.
Court records reveal that Kodep committed the offense by “embezzling, stealing, purloining or knowingly corverting to his use own use funds of the Melekeok State Government, and that defendant stole and converted to his own use funds in excess of $100 belonging to the Melekeok State Treasury.”
