This is a short and precise letter to the Retirement Fund trustees. I am concerned about the benefits of COLA and annual increment being given only to those 55 years and older. I believe that the benefits should be given equally to all retirees regardless of age. Therefore, I respectfully request that the trustees look into this matter. No matter what age, all retirees are suffering from the economic downturn and the high cost of living.
I believe it is unfair when a 55-year-old retiree is receiving, for example, $40,000 or more per annum, then gets COLA and annual increment every year; while, on the other hand, a retiree who is below 55 years old receives $20,000 per annum but doesn’t get COLA or annual increment just because the retiree is under 55 years old. Where is the equal treatment? We are all suffering from the economic decline.
In closing, I hope that you the trustees of the Retirement Fund would take this issue up in your next meeting. The retirement benefits of all retirees should be distributed equally.
