ARRA provides 89 business opportunities, 7 slots still open

Of the total business opportunities, 78 have been closed while seven opportunities are still available. Commerce also reported that four job vacancies are still open.

In his report released early this month, Commerce secretary Michael Ada said the local ARRA spent a total of $8,788,311 for its first reporting period for payroll, goods and services. The second reporting period posted a total spending of $10,612,713 while the third spending period posted a total of $16,331,818.

As of this month, ARRA reported a total of 375 jobs that were created or retained.

Ada said  the oversight is strong for the CNMI-ARRA achievements.

Financial allocations

The Office of the Governor got the lion’s share or $32,439,190 from the total $79,530,458 awarded to the central government based on the latest updates from ARRA’s new Website.

The Division of Energy got the next biggest allocation with $29,139,706, followed by the Department of Public Works which was awarded $9 million. The Division of Community and Cultural Affairs was awarded a total of $2,789,885, followed by the Criminal Justice Planning Agency which received $2,052,925.

The Women, Infants and Children’s program was awarded $1,312,737 while the Department of Public Health got $1,085,975.

For the autonomous agency grant funding, the Commonwealth Ports Authority got the biggest share with $5 million from the total $14,475,381 grant awards. The next highest recipient is the Public School System with $3,316,304, followed by the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. with $3,280,700. The Northern Marianas Housing Corporation got a total grant award of $1,963,884 while Northern Marianas College received $914,493.

The local ARRA  received a total of $228,675 in non-profit organization grant awards, $106,200 of which was awarded to the Center for Living Independently. $78,125 was awarded to the Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence, while $44,350 was awarded to the Karidat Social Services.

The ARRA federal contracts in the CNMI reached a total of $4,861,484, with the biggest amount of $2,179 going to the CUC. The RJCL Corporation got $1,789,800, followed by GPPC Inc. which was awarded a $711,034 in contracts, followed by Engineering Solutions with $91,117, and Winzler & Kelly with $90,533.
