Gov. Benigno R. Fitial signed the local bill, which Santos introduced, on Tuesday.
The new law, P.L. 17-13, will lift the current ban on certain traditional fishing methods in Rota.
It will ensure that current regulations “do not restrict the rights of persons to engage in non-commercial net-fishing, provided that such right be restricted to non-commercial net-fishing for the purpose of obtaining fish for personal or immediate family consumption.”
Santos, Ind.-Rota, said P.L. 17-13 will help community members considering the high cost of living nowadays.
“Rota residents have long been waiting for this bill,” she said.
The new law amends Public Law 12-14, or the Fair Fishing Act of 2000, to ensure that the rights of persons to engage in non-commercial net-fishing are safeguarded.
“The Rota people and its leaders expressed their appreciation to the governor for signing the bill into law,” Santos said
