On Sunday, May 30, twenty-two teams competed in events which included a tug-of-war, an egg toss, a “food fear factor,” a “cross-country skiing” event, and a heavily-modified triathlon. Hundreds of family members, friends, and colleagues also attended the competition, both to cheer on the competitors and to share in the barbecuing and relaxing day-at-the-beach atmosphere.
Member companies paid $300 each to sponsor five-person, co-ed teams.
Participating companies included: Bank of Guam, Coca-Cola and Glimpses, CTSI/FedEx Express, D&Q Saipan, DFS, Docomo Pacific, Fiesta Resort & Spa, First Hawaiian Bank, G4S Security Services, Herman’s Modern Bakery, IT&E, Marianas Pacific Distributors, MCV, Microl Toyota, Pacific Islands Club, Palms Resort, Saipan Shipping, Shell Marianas / Delta Management, TakeCare Insurance, and three teams from the Triple J group of companies.
The event, which was held at Minachom Atdao, began at 9:30 in the morning, and concluded in mid-afternoon.
Herman’s Modern Bakery took first place, Pacific Islands Club came in second, and Docomo Pacific came in third.
In the weeks prior to the event, teams worked to beautify pavilions along the west coast of Saipan in order to support the island’s tourism industry. The team spirit competition was judged based on the level of beautification at each of the pavilions. Judges complemented the creativity and hard work that all of the teams invested in the beautification competition; ultimately, MCV won the Team Spirit Award.
Trophies and prize packages were awarded to each member of the first, second, and third place teams, as well as the team spirit winners.
